In Times of Crisis, We Rise Together: HealthSync’s Promise to Mother Lanka
The past weeks have been tested our nation in ways we could never have imagined. As Cyclone Ditwah swept across our island, it left behind a trail of devastation that has touched almost every district, every community, and countless families. More than 600 innocent lives have been lost, hundreds remain missing, and nearly a million Sri Lankans have been displaced from their homes.
Our hearts are with every person affected – those who have lost loved ones, those searching for the missing, families sheltering in relief centers, and communities working tirelessly to rescue and rebuild.
The Sri Lankan Spirit
This is not the first time our nation has faced adversity, and it will not be the last. Yet, time and again, we have shown the world that it means to rise from the rubble. We have demonstrated that our strength lies not in avoiding hardship, but in how we come together when it strikes.
We have seen it in the volunteers wading through floodwaters to rescue strangers. In the neighbors sharing their last meal with displaced families. In the healthcare workers treating patients around the clock despite having lost their own homes. In every act of kindness, large and small, we see the indomitable sprit of Mother Lanka.
Our Responsibility as a Sri Lankan Startup
At HealthSync, we are a team of Sri Lankans building solutions for Sri Lankans. Many of us have been directly affected by this disaster. Some of our team members have family in relief centers. We are not outside observers – we are part of this story, part of this pain, and part of this recovery.
As a health-tech startup, we’ve been reflecting deeply on our responsibility in this moment. How can we contribute meaningfully to our nation’s recover? How can we help ensure that when future crises come – and they will – we are better prepared?
One Less Thing to Worry About
In the chaos of evacuation, families grabbed what they could – photographs, documents, whatever was within reach. But medical records, prescription history, vaccination records were often left behind, scattered, or destroyed. In relief centers and makeshift clinics, doctors are treating patients whose entire medical history has been washed away.
We’ve heard the stories: a diabetic patient unable to remember their medication dosages, a child needing urgent care but with no record of allergies, elderly patients with multiple conditions and no documentation of their treatment plans. In moments of crisis, when healthcare is most critical, vital medical information becomes inaccessible.
This is why we built HealthSync – to ensure that your health information is always with you, accessible from anywhere, completely secure. But more than that, we built it because we believe every Sri Lankan deserves peace of mind, especially in uncertain times. We deeply wish we had this solution in place as we could have saved s lot of critical health data.
Our Commitment to Sri Lanka
As we rebuild our nation, we are making the following commitments:
- Free Access for All Sri Lankans: HealthSync will be free to start for every Sri Lankan individual and family. In times like these, access to essential tools should never be a barrier.
- Supporting Relief Efforts: We are coordinating with relief organizations to help digitize and organize medical records for displaced families in relef centers, ensuring continuity of care during this critical time.
- Building for Resilience: We are partnering with healthcare providers across the country to create a more connected, resilient health system – one that can withstand future crises.
- Listening and Learning: We are actively engaging with communities, healthcare workers, and families affected by the disaster to understand their needs and build solutions that truly serve them.
Rethinking How We Prepare
This disaster has shown us that we cannot approach the future the same way we approached the past.
Climate change is making extreme weather event more frequent and severe. Our infrastructure, our systems, and our preparedness must evolve.
Digital solutions are not a luxury – they are a necessity for a resilient future. Whether it’s health records, important documents, or critical information, having secure, accessible digital backups can make the difference between chaos and continuity when disaster strikes.
Moving Forward Together
Recovery will not be easy. Rebuilding will take time. But if there’s one thing we know about Sri Lankans, it’s that we don’t rebuild alone. We do it together—village by village, district by district, hand in hand.
HealthSync is honored to be part of this journey. We are not here to capitalize on crisis; we are here because we are Sri Lankan, and this is our home too. We are here because we believe that from this tragedy, we can build something stronger, something better, something more resilient.
In the coming weeks, we will be sharing practical guides on emergency health preparedness, information on how to safeguard your family’s medical information, and resources for those affected by the disaster. We will continue to listen, to learn, and to serve.
To every person affected by Cyclone Ditwah: we see you, we stand with you, and we are committed to building a future where you have one less thing to worry about.
Because in times of crisis, we don’t just survive. We rise. Together!
