Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka (Remote)

What would you do at Axon Systems?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer fluent in Java 17+ to lead the development of our secure and scalable EHR backend systems. You’ll work on HealthSync, our flagship digital health platform, helping us design, implement, and evolve the core services that process, store, and manage sensitive health data across Sri Lanka’s healthcare network.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop high-performance backend services using Java 17 and related modern frameworks.
  • Implement secure, compliant, and scalable data management solutions.
  • Optimize and maintain microservices and APIs that support clinical and patient-facing features.
  • Introduce and integrate advanced Java features, libraries, and performance improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, DevOps, and clinical consultants.
  • Mentor junior engineers and enforce best practices in code quality, testing, and design.
Who we’re looking for
  • 5+ years of backend development experience with Java (preferably Java 17+).
  • Strong understanding of Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, multithreading, and design patterns.
  • Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture, microservices, and containerized environments.
  • Solid grasp of software security principles and healthcare data privacy is a strong plus.
  • Passion for exploring new Java-based tools, performance tuning, and cloud-native backend design.
